| (Information about Northwest militia-type groups) | |
| By Steve Bluhm University of Idaho journalism student Name: Militia of Montana. (M.O.M. for short) Location: Noxon, Mont. Main Belief/focus: Believe/teach that the United States government is allowing the United Nations to overtake the sovereignty of the U. S. by allowing its troops to train in remote areas of the U. S. Soviet-made weapons and trucks are said to be in National Guard bases in Biloxi, Miss. Members teach survival skills, self-defense and suggest that the U. S. government is guilty of treason. John Trochmann, co-founder, said the U. S. government is building concentration camps, planning nine zones to replace the lower 48 states, planning Martial law, and claims that "America's white population will perish." The group claims the National Guard is not the militia, but a private army for the president. They state that the Militia is to protect citizens from governmental tyranny. Activities: Hold regional rallies to gain support. Have an active WWW page with an online-mail-order department. Merchandise includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, gas masks, biological suits, books and videos. T-shirt slogans say "The UN - Peace through terror", "Had enough? Militia", and "Here in our homeland God, Guts & Guns keep us free." Books and videos include preparedness, self-defense, survival, education, and military. Objective: It appears that this Militia desires self-promotion and merchandise sales. Region: Montana, and neighboring states, especially Washington.
